Indoor pools
Q.
What about humidity for indoor pool installations?
A.
Humidity is always a concern when you bring a body of water indoors. The optional Retractable Security Cover can control 70% of the humidity when in place. For commercial use we suggest to install a dehumidifier. Proper dehumidification and ventilation are essential to both ensure that the indoor pool space is comfortable for its inhabitants, and to inhibit growth of mold and mildew. As the air in an indoor pool becomes saturated with humidity from the evaporation of pool water, moisture will begin to condense on interior surfaces and will cause discomfort to those using the indoor pool. Mechanical dehumidification and ventilation equipment should be used to remove this moisture from the indoor air and thus maintain desirable and comfortable levels of humidity.
Q.
How do I prevent condensation on glass?
A.
You must provide a direct flow of warm, dry air across all areas of glass. Because the temperature differential is most extreme at exterior glazed areas, windows and glass doors are particularly prone to excessive condensation. As part of the heating and ventilation system, all exterior windows and glass doors should be bathed in a flow of warm, dry air. This will inhibit fogging of windows and deterioration of window and door frame materials. Maintaining the indoor air at 2 degrees above the pool water temperature reduces evaporation of water from the pool. Reduced moisture in the air will allow the dehumidification system to work more efficiently.
Q.
Which materials and method do you use?
A.
The correct selection, placement, and installation of suitable vapor barriers and insulation are critical to avoid deterioration of building materials. Equally important is the proper use of dehumidification, heating, and ventilating systems.
VAPOR BARRIERS: Warm, humid air inside a pool building naturally migrates to the cooler, drier air outdoors. As it does so moisture condenses in the exterior wall cavity, causing mold, rot, and deterioration of the exterior wall materials. This effect is especially pronounced in colder climates, where the contrast between the humid indoor air and the dry exterior air is greater. Proper selection, placement, and installation of a suitable vapor barrier can minimize this unwanted moisture migration. Select and specify a vapor barrier with a permeance rating of 0.1 or less. A vapor barrier inhibits moisture migration. The permeance rating (perms) measures the amount of moisture that can migrate through a particular vapor barrier. A vapor barrier with a permeance rating greater than 0.1.....the kind typically used in standard construction.....will allow too much moisture through it and is not recommended for use in indoor pool construction.
INSULATION AND OTHER BUILDING MATERIALS: Completely envelop the building above and below ground with ample insulation. To reduce of heat loss and enhance energy efficiency, be sure to use sufficient insulation.
Q.
Who are your customers?
A.
We are specialist designers, manufacturer and installers of luxury swimming pools with tiled finish for hotels, resorts, wellness centres, homeowners, builders, contractors and architects. However, our technical services do undertake filtration, heating and ventilation design for any type of indoor or outdoor pool, be it concrete, vinyl lined or modular kit.
Outdoor Pools
Q.
If someone is allergic to Chlorine, is there an alternative?
A.
Yes, there are a number of alternatives in today's market - Bromine, Ozone, Salt, Active Oxygen and UV light to mention a few.
Q.
Is there a recommended temperature for an outdoor pool?
A.
No. It depends on the swimmers. The cost of heating increases twofold every 3°C or 5°F because the differential between the water and air temperatures increases. Most outdoor pools will get solar gain and most have a temperature of about 27°C or 80°F. A floating cover on the pool at night will greatly reduce running costs.
Pools Covers
Q.
Are there different types?
A.
Yes. Essentially there are two types on the market. The PVC slatted type, which are more commonly used on indoor pools and then fabric covers which are common to outdoor pools.
Q.
Is an automatic swimming pool cover suitable for a shaped pool?
A.
Normally any size or shaped swimming pool can be covered by an automatic swimming pool cover.
Q.
Can they be fitted to an existing pool?
A.
Yes. The cover can be housed in an above ground covered enclosure fitted at the end of the pool, whilst on a new pool, the cover would be housed in the ground pit, constructed at the same time as the pool.
Q.
What colours do automatic swimming pool covers come in?
A.
Automatic swimming pool covers are available in many colours. Different colour fabrics are available for the PVC slatted.
Q.
Do they provide safety?
A.
Yes and not only. We know safety is of paramount importance when considering purchasing a swimming pool, especially where children and pets are concerned. A swimming pool safety cover will alleviate all these concerns and at the same time conserving energy.
