kneipp massage
Q.
Who was Sebastian Kneipp?
A.
In the mid to late 1800's, Sebastian Kneipp revolutionized natural medicine. At the age of 28, Sebastian Kneipp cured himself of a severe case of tuberculosis (a disease considered incurable during this time) by taking brief immersions in the cold waters of the Danube during the winter. Kneipp dedicated the rest of his long life to harnessing the healing power of water by using specific plants and herbs. Kneipp was not just a pioneer, but also became an authority in the field of holistic healing.
Q.
Wich were the five main tenets?
A.
Although most commonly associated with one area of Naturopathic medicine, Kneipp was the proponent of an entire system of healing, which rested on five main tenets:
-Hydrotherapy
-Herbalism - The use of botanical medicines.
-Exercise
-Nutrition - A wholesome diet of whole grains, fruits & vegetables with limited meat
-Spirituality - Kneipp believed that a healthy mind begot a healthy person
Q.
What is the Kneipp Path?
A.
The Kneipp path is based on the passage between two baths, where the alternation of hot (38°C-100°F) and cold (18°C-65°F) hydromassage allows to achieve an immediate positive effect on circulation and nervous system, also thanks to the pleasant feet-massage made by the small pebbles that cover the bottom of both baths. The hot water soothes and eases the body, slowing down the activity of the inner organs. Cold water, on the contrary, stimulates and invigorates, increasing the inner activity. The alternation between hot and cold reduces the stress and stimulates body and mind.
